Found Object Robot
April 26th, 2006
Here’s my illustration for this weekend theme for Illustration Friday: ROBOT I used an esemblage/found object technique for the sculpture. I haven’t done one of these since college and I loved working on it. I think I’m going to make some more!
Here are some neat esemblage/found object artists:
Maria Rendon
Michelle Stitzlein be sure to look here too.
Leo Sewell
**I am selling this piece! In a effort to make some money solely for the purpose of building a separate studio onto my house, I’ll be selling some original pieces. This particular piece is $250 US + shipping (payment through PayPal). It is mounted on 1″ thick birch plywood, ready to hang, and measures 11″x13″ to the top of the antennas. **
Email me if you’re interested. SOLD!
Stay tuned for more work for sale. Hopefully I’ll get some things together this week and post.

Busy Week
April 24th, 2006
Above is a snippet from an illustration I finished Friday for Ladybug magazine (one of the jobs as a result of my postcard mailer). I finished up my only work related deadline this week, but my week is full of projects. I’m making a baby gift for a friend and I’m wanting to do it in pastels (a palette I hardly ever work in) to match her nursery, so I’m making a couple of practice pieces to work on color. I plan on practicing with 3 small clay illustrations like the below.
I’m doing a tiger, pig and frog. When I’m done I’ll probably end up selling them so stay tuned for the finals.
I’m also wanting to do something different with this week’s Illustration Friday theme. I’m thinking esemblage. I haven’t done anything like that since school and I loved it then.
I’m also working on a piece that I had promised to do for a swap, but when my hard drive died a while back, so did all my swap info (who, what, when, where…everything!), but Bea emailed me the other day and ask about it and I’m so glad she did!! Pirates, what fun!!
And, last but not least, get some black & white samples together.
Busy week, I should start now while the Woog’s asleep

Black & White
April 20th, 2006
Working on some tonal B&W and line art to add to my portfolio. This is a snipit from an image I did awhile back. Not sure if I like simplistic tonal, or tonal like the above with more texture and shading. I guess it doesn’t hurt to have both in your portfolio.

Surprisingly the Woog knew exactly what to do when we handed her the basket. Hope everyone had a good Easter. Now it’s back to work…

Freckles
April 14th, 2006
Here’s a quick illustration for this week’s Illustration Friday – “spotted.” I’ve always heard that freckles were kisses from God and you shouldn’t be ashamed of them. This piece is titled “Spiffing Up for Picture Day.”
Oh, and I think I fixed the problem I was having with my blog feed, so now you should be able to add me to your bloglines list (or whatever you may use) and it should work
** I’ve decided to sell some clay pieces, and I’m selling this one for $20 US + shipping (unframed, mounted on 4″ x4″ illustration board and signed). **
Email me if you’re interested. SOLD!!

My entry for this week’s Illustration Friday. I always hated drawing cats but I’ve had to draw a few in the past few weeks so now they aren’t so bad. I don’t think I could ever draw a cat without stripes though. I need to have that extra detail and color punch
I’ve been really looking at color lately and have drawn inspiration from these guys:
Kenneth Spengler- found him while teaching my daugther’s Sunday School class. Can’t remember the book title though. His wife (I’m guessing) is illustrator Margaret Spengler – also great color.
Jennifer Kalis – have had her bookmarked forever. I love her block background texture. Reminds me of painted masking tape.
Laura Huliska-Beith – one of my favorites. I like how she uses fabric within her paintings.

Animal collage final
April 11th, 2006
Here is the final clay collage piece. It’s been framed in a red shadow box with a white mat and will be on it’s way to New York. A year ago this month I signed with my agent so this is a thank you gift for her. I hope she likes it and I hope it gets there in one piece!

Animal collage
April 5th, 2006
Working on a thank you gift for someone. I don’t think she looks at my blog or even knows I have one but just in case, I won’t mention her name yet. I’m a little nervous about shipping it. It will be made out of clay and framed in a shadowbox, so I’m going to have to use some heavy duty glue and a lot of packing peanuts!

Spring Ellie
April 4th, 2006
This has been in my sketchbook for a while and I thought it would be perfect for this week’s Illustration Friday. I made it with the intention of selling it since I’m going to get some original caly work together to sell, but I like him too much, I might just keep him!
You may have noticed that I have several images missing from current posts. Hopefully my hosting company can recover them but I’m afraid they might be gone forever. I messed up the DNS entry for my blog yesterday and it was totally gone for a while and they got nearly everything back except my images after 12-2-05.
