This is a little late, but this is an Easter pop-up book I illustrated last summer and came out this year. I’m glad I didn’t have to figure out or work around any of the paper engineering. My brain just doesn’t think like that. It has glitter and varnish throughout it which is pretty cool too!

handmade: framed jewelry
March 19th, 2008

In my challenge for making all my gifts this year, I thought I’d show a piece I made last month for my Mom’s birthday. It a jewelry frame that hangs on the wall. Just took a frame, scrapbook paper, cup hooks and there you have it! I also gave her one of type collage pendants I sell in my etsy shop.

Looking for an intern
March 17th, 2008

It became evident last week that I need an intern. I had my design internship the summer before my senior year of college and learned so much (I’m thinking I had to do like 240 hours for 4 credit hours). I’ve always wanted to give back in this way and now is really the time for me. It was an unpaid internship (which is what this will be) but it allowed me to go straight into a job that was far above entry-level. My goal when I built my studio was to have interns on a consistent basis. I’d like to have a teaching studio and share what I know and learn a thing or two from them. I’ll be looking for an intern who is a graphic design or illustration major who really, REALLY loves the field(s) they are going into. I have several exciting things up my sleeve for the internship experience. If you are in the Nashville area, please send me an email and I’ll get more information to you.

changes
March 12th, 2008

It’s Wednesday again and time for Woogie Wednesday. I think Wednesdays might be changing around here. We started a project this morning but she was done done about 15 minutes into it, which had kind of happened on and off this year. I’m thinking I should change the structure of WW and just do other creative things besides making art. So, here’s one thing we did today:

We FINALLY (sorry to the ones on the list!) got around to putting on our traveling tail and taking a picture. Traveling Tales is the brainchild of Stacy at Mama’s Doodles. Here’s the flickr group with instructions. She’s currently on maternity leave but go ahead and bookmark her shop here and in the future you can get a tail all your own.

Old Photos
March 11th, 2008

I love old family pictures. There’s nothing like having the originals with those cool, browned, deckled edges. The above picture is my all time favorite of my Granddad who passed away a couple of weeks ago. In talking to my cousin, I realized she had no tangible memories of our grandparents so I went up in the attic last night and found a stack of family photos and family history that my Grandmom put together and gave me when I was eleven (and can you believe it was the very first box I look in – that will never happen again!). I was working on a genealogy project for school at the time. So, I’m sifting through everything and making copies of all that I have to give to all the grandchildren.

umm…cupcakes
March 10th, 2008

I was hired by Wish-Cake to design their website look as well as a new logo. Wish-Cake is a cupcake delivery business in Philly. I’d love to try their Hannah Banana. Too bad they don’t ship or I’d really be in trouble!
